Noh Discovering Tradition Vol.5
※All Seats are Unreserved and free of Charge.
Tradition is by definition “the transmission of customs from generation to generation.” Noh, with a history of over 650 years, is the epitome of tradition. This workshop and performance lifts the curtain to allow you to discover how the intricately woven threads of this performing art create an exquisite cultural fabric.
The first part of this program invites participants to experience the power of noh chant by learning a short passage from the afternoon’ s full noh. Then volunteers from the audience will join professionals onstage to learn how to stand, walk and gesture in the style of noh as well as being dressed in the elaborate costumes used in performance.Observing noh’s distinctive use of the body and voice may just redefine your ideas of dance and music.
Part two of this program is a presentation of the classic noh Daie by members of the Kita School.Participants will now see how the building blocks of noh, introduced in part one, interact to create an intense atmosphere of deep listening.Through this intensive one-day noh experience, let the power of Japanese tradition reveal a world beyond your imagination.
